(Feb 1, 2010) - Barbra
Streisand participated in the 2010 recording of "We Are The World" at
the former A&M studios on Los Angeles today. Dozens of industry
performers joined together in the benefit recording that will raise
money to assist earthquake victims in
Haiti.

Barbra was a member of
the all-star chorus but also got to perform a solo verse on the
recording. According to "The Hollywood Reporter," Barbra sang the same
portion of the song that Diana Ross so eloquently delivered back in
1985:
“There’s a choice we’re
making/We’re saving our own lives” and “It’s true we make a
brighter day/So let’s start living.”
Over 70 performers were on hand including Tony Bennett, Celine Dion, Barbra's
"Mirror" co-star Jeff Bridges, Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Hudson,
Gladys Knight, Josh Grobin and Natalie Cole. All of the current
performers on this remake of "We Are The World" are new to the
project. None of them sang on the original recording back in 1985.

"We Are The World" will have its world premiere during the
opening ceremony of the Olympics on NBC (February 12). To add even more excitement to the
project, director Paul Haggis filmed the recording session in 3D.
"We Are The World," originally written by Michael Jackson
and
Lionel Richie was first produced by Quincy Jones in 1985. It was a music industry
benefit recording that, to date, has raised over $63 million for
famine relief in Africa. Barbra was not a participant then. |
