During a
Las Vegas concert engagement in 1971, Barbra headed into the
Mojave
desert
for a special photo shoot. The result was the distinctive cover
for her upcoming album, "Stoney End" - taken at nearby Sunrise
Mountain.

Going Down
the Stoney End
(Jan 12, 2010) -
One of the more interesting Streisand locations, and certainly
the most picturesque, is Sunrise Mountain, located on the
outskirts of Las Vegas and an easy 20 minute drive from The
Strip. It was amid this brush landscape of the Mojave desert
where Barbra sat for the "Stoney End" album cover.
It's easy to drive out to the mountain where you'll
immediately recognize the unique vista. The cover of "Stoney
End" will come to life before your very eyes as you inch
closer toward the foothills. So hop in your vintage pick-up
(preferably candy apple red, sofa optional), crank up the
album and head out toward Sunrise Mountain for a visit to one
of the most unique of all Streisand-related locations.

About the
Photographer
Noted
photographer Barry Feinstein was called upon to shoot the cover of
"Stoney End." He captured an image of Barbra Streisand that has
since become a classic. But "Stoney End" was not the only time the
talented photographer shot an iconic album cover. Around the same
time as the "Stoney End" photo shoot, Feinstein was behind the
camera when Janis Joplin sat for the cover of her last album,
"Pearl."
Feinstein has worked with many artists. He is perhaps best known
for his photographic portraits of Bob Dylan. One of Feinstein's
images was used as the cover of Dylan's album, "The Times They Are
A-Changin' ". |
