Barbra 2012: A Year in the Life |

Barbra and Roz in Vancouver, Canada |
"Back to Brooklyn"
The highlight of 2012
was, without a doubt,
Barbra's monumental
"Back to Brooklyn" tour.
The last nine concert
dates included a live
duet with her sister,
Roslyn Kind. |
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
A
New
Tour,
an
Album
of
Rarities,
and
a
Return
to
Pictures.
What
a
way
to
celebrate
50
years!
December 31, 2012
This
year,
Barbra
Streisand
celebrated
her
50th
year
as a
recording
artist
... and
her
70th
birthday.
She
was
center
stage,
professionally,
socially
and
philanthropically,
each
and
every
month
in
2012.
As
Las
Vegas
journalist
Anthony
Del
Valle
wrote
in
his
review
of
Barbra's
concert
at
the
MGM
Grand
in
November,
"Rarely
has
anyone
done
so
much
with
so
much."
Lots
of
exciting
things
were
promised
in
recognition
of
Barbra's
50th
anniversary,
and
boy
were
they
right.
First
came
the
unexpected
announcement
of
a
concert
tour.
Two
performances
in
Brooklyn
quickly
became
twelve
performances
in
ten
major
U.S.
and
Canadian
cities.
"Back
to
Brooklyn"
was
an
artistic
and
financial
success.
Critics
from
Philadelphia
to
Vancouver
were
universal
in
their
acclaim
and
Barbra's
concerts
were
among
the
highest
earning
acts
of
the
year.
And
Barbra
finally
sang,
publicly,
with
her
son
Jason,
and
her
sister,
Roz.
It
was
just
that
kind
of a
year.
A
collective
cheer
could
be
heard
from
coast
to
coast
when
"Release
Me"
finally
made
its
way
to
store
shelves.
This
was
the
collection
of
rare
Barbra
Streisand
audio
that
fans
had
been
clamoring
for
...
for
decades.
It
was
so
much
fun
to
finally
throw
away
those
bootlegs!
As
the
year
was
winding
down,
the
excitement
of
Barbra's
big
return
to
pictures
was
just
beginning
to
rev
up.
"The
Guilt
Trip"
was
finally
released
in
December.
Barbra
did
not
hold
back
in
promoting
the
film,
her
first
starring
role
since
1996.
She
and
co-star
Seth
Rogen
were
everywhere;
touting
their
flick
on
talk
shows,
in
endless
media
interviews,
and
through
some
very
clever
advertising.
And
lest
we
forget,
Barbra
continued
her
all
important
work
with
Cedars-Sinai
as
their
advocate
for
women's
heart
health.
Her
fundraising
efforts
have
raised
over
$22
million
at
last
count.
In
July,
Cedars
officially
changed
the
name
of
their
cardiac
research
and
care
facility
to
The
Barbra
Streisand
Women's
Heart
Center.
As
2012
comes
to a
close,
we
reflect
on
the
passing
of
Marvin
Hamlisch,
Donna
Summer,
Mort
Lindsey
and
Phyllis
Diller.
Each
played
an
extraordinary
role
in
Barbra's
career.
Each
had
a
talent
as
extraordinary
as
Barbra's.
They
will
be
missed.
Here's
our
year-end
recap
of a
most
eventful
year
in
the
life
of
Barbra
Streisand.
