Incident on Seventh Ave.

Nov 2006

Stop the presses! When Barbra Streisand told off an unruly heckler during one of her New York concerts, the media unfairly pounced. After all, all she did was to take firm control of the situation, thus guaranteeing an enjoyable evening for the rest of her paying audience.

Brooklyn Gal Takes Control
Nov
1 - Barbra shocked the music world during her October 9th concert in New York. Why? She uttered (gasp!) a profanity. Presses all around the country grinded to an immediate halt in order to rush the report of Barbra's rather unscripted in-your-face comment to an unruly patron.  A heckler who began disrupting Barbra's performance during the George Bush comedy routine just wouldn't let up, even after the skit was long over and Barbra had completed another song. Fearing that her fans' concert experiences were in jeopardy, Barbra took matters into her own hands and told the guy off in plain terms, dropping what has since become known as Barbra's F-Bomb in the process.

Had this occurred during any other artist's concert, the incident would have been a complete non event. But this is Barbra Streisand, a performer who is the epitome of grace and perfection, performing in her home town in front of family, friends and lifelong fans who paid enormous amounts of hard earned cash to see her. Barbra did what she had to do to take control of her show. The girl from Flatbush Avenue let loose but good. She gave the malcontent the heave-ho and booted him out onto Seventh Avenue. She allowed her performance to continue without further incident.

Some have criticized Barbra as a "potty-mouth" for her handling of this disruption. But look at the whole picture. Had Barbra not addressed the issue head on, who knows how much longer this guy would have persisted. So while virgin ears might have been momentarily shocked, Barbra did the right thing. She eliminated the problem and the show went on. She did it for her audience, and everyone who was there that night was grateful. I applaud her Brooklyn moxy.
