Hidden
Treasures?
Legend has it that there exists a network of secret vaults that stretches clear across the globe: from London to New York to Los Angeles. Each vault is said to hold a unique treasure. These treasures are
most likely hidden away deep within recording studio archives, movie lot storerooms and television studio libraries.
They are the unaired and unreleased performances of Barbra Streisand.
An event two months ago reminded us that many of these rumored treasures most likely exist. That event was the release of an unknown 1967 Streisand studio recording. When Barbra's English-language vocal of Ave Maria was distributed last November, quietly and without fanfare, people began to wonder what other treasures might be locked up in these hideaway vaults.
So, where in the world is all this stuff? Barbra Streisand has filmed and recorded so much that it's mind boggling to imagine what bounty these secret vaults might actually yield for Barbra's public, not to mention a harvest of potential profits for Barbra and her various business associates. Let's just hope that someday the lords of these brass rings, those wise sages and keepers of this rare Streisand gold, will rediscover the contents of their various vaults - and that they will share the wealth. After all, any Streisand performance is not just entertainment. It's entertainment history and demands an audience.
