Watch
Closely
Now
September
13,
2006
- The
last
time
she
played
Phoenix,
Arizona
(well,
Tempe,
actually),
Barbra
was in
the
midst
of
shooting
her
smash
hit
film,
"A
Star
Is
Born."
Perhaps
as an
homage
to her
legendary
concert
appearance
at
Arizona
State
University
back
in
1976,
Barbra
and
her
promoters
have
decided
to
include
a
concert
at the
US
Airways
Arena
in
Phoenix
as
part
of her
North
American
tour,
kicking
off
next
month.
The
concert,
scheduled
for
November
16
will
surely
evoke
memories
of the
massive
1976
concert,
which
was
organized
for
and
included
in
several
scenes
of "A
Star
Is
Born."
Back
then,
once
the
actual
film's
scenes
were
completed,
Barbra
took
to the
stage
as
herself
and
thrilled
thousands
of
extras
with a
performance
that
included
several
of her
signature
hits.
"A
Star
Is
Born"
and
the
Tempe
concert
both
turned
30
this
year.
So it
is
only
fitting
that
Barbra
should
return
to
Phoenix
to
mark
the
occasion. |

Detroit Gets Axed, Lagging Sales Cited
September
22,
2006
- In a
surprising
move,
promoters
for
Barbra's
upcoming
tour
have
announced
the
cancellation
of
Barbra's
October
18
performance
in
Detroit.
A
lagging
box-office
was
the
reason
given
for
this
disappointing
turn
of
events.
The
demise
of the
Detroit
show
had
been
rumored
ever
since
Barbra
added
a
second
concert
date
in
Toronto.
Promoters
are
offering
a
financial
travel
incentive
to
Detroit
ticket
holders
who
decide
to go
to one
of the
shows
in
either
Columbus
or
Toronto.
The
offer
of
good
will
will
surely
ease
the
frustration
of
Barbra's
many
Motown
fans.
